Gothic style French cathedral

First stop in Cai Be was to see the Gothic style cathedral built by the French between 1929 and 1932. We walked the short distance from the motor boats to the church. The bells towers hold five very heavy bronze bells.

Inside we could look up at some of the yellow stained glass windows and see bullet holes. I'm not at all religious but seeing bullet holes in a church was disconcerting.

Rice factory

We set off on foot again from the cathedral to the nearby rice factory.

The first thing we set eyes on at the rice factory were the snake heads in large bottles of liquid. This was snake head wine brewing. Some of our group chose to sample it but being non-drinkers Ian and I declined. There was also rice wine to try.

There were giant wok style cooking pans sitting atop extremely hot fires so you can imagine the heat in the factory. Some of the popped rice would be tossed into molten caramel. there were coconut caramel lollies as well.

At the end of our rice factory tour who should we find again but the Getaway film crew. Anyone would think they were following us.
