Travelodge, Wentworth disappoints us

Previous page: First we have to get to Sydney

Last night we were expecting such a good night's sleep. We had had such a long day but alas sleep was not forthcoming. The air-conditioning in our room was faulty. It was set to the minimum temperature but we couldn't get it to pump out cold air. Plus it was very noisy indeed. When we had our shower last night we found the extractor fan was not working in the bathroom so we had to leave the bathroom door open to remove some of the steam. So our bedroom was steamy to start with plus then add into the equation a faulty and very noisy air conditioner. We tossed and turned all night and got up feeling like wrecks.

We complain at the hotel reception

Before going into the restaurant for breakfast we lined up at the reception desk. I aired our complaints and requested that the problems be fixed before we returned that night. We felt we couldn't possibly sleep another night in those conditions. We were assured that their maintenance staff would be informed and they would take action.

Visiting Ian's family

We then spent a lovely day visiting with Ian's family in the suburbs. We travelled out there by train and thoroughly enjoyed the journey out and back. We arrived back at our hotel quite late. I made sure I stopped at reception to find out if the problems in our room had been fixed. I was assured they were.

Another awful night's sleep

Well you guessed it. Nothing whatsoever had been fixed. We had to be down at reception very early the next morning ready to go on our way to the airport. Of course I complained to the receptionist again. I mentioned to her that it was not appropriate to bill us for two nights accommodation. I suggested we pay for one night only due the problems in our room. The receptionist told us she didn't have the authority to adjust the bill. She gave me an email address to contact the manager. Hmmm! Not very impressive.

Added later: When we got back home I did email the hotel manager. She apologized profusely and has repaid us 50% of our bill.
