Flying to Norfolk Island

Shuttle bus to Sydney airport

Rather than carting our luggage all the way back down the steps to the train station we opted for a hotel shuttle bus. There was the usual hoo haa with people not being ready when the bus arrived to collect them at their hotel. We so wish people didn't do this. It's not fair on other travellers who do the right thing instead of dawdling.

Breakfast at Pie Face

We were too early to get breakfast at the hotel so we went searching for something to eat at the airport. We chose a quiche and a cuppa each from a place called Pie Face. We weren't overly impressed. In fact I thought my quiche tasted a bit odd. I wasn't sick afterwards so that was the main thing.

The confusion over which gate we were departing from

After a quick toilet stop we reached Gate 27 where the Air New Zealand flight was leaving from. We were only there for moments when we soon discovered the departure gate number had been changed. It was changed to Gate 63 which just happened to be at the other end of the airport. Darn it.

There was a delay in the plane leaving because the cabin crew weren't there. We wondered if they were still down at Gate 27.

It turns out the plane was 50% empty so we saved a lot of time getting people on board. The plane actually left pretty much on time.

Air New Zealand to Norfolk Island

We fly out of Sydney en route to Norfolk Island Farewell Sydney

Whilst the plane taxied along the runway we were able to watch the usual take-off safety procedures on our little entertainment screens.

Instead of the mundane instructions we would normally expect to hear we found ourselves being instructed by the cast from Lord of the Rings. Well they were a look-alike cast anyway.

The whole instruction session was a sheer delight to watch. A lovely way to further promote New Zealand.

No meals are served on the plane as it is such a short flight. However water, tea and coffee are free. The flight took 2 hours and 15 minutes and it was virtually cloudy all the way.
