We land in paradise, otherwise known as Norfolk Island

Finally we see our destination - Norfolk Island Almost arrived in paradise

Suddenly we broke through the clouds to see a very green Norfolk Island. It looked quite rugged. No sandy beaches in sight.

As expected the airport was small. We could see people very close to the runway waving to the passengers on the plane.

The strange Customs lady

Our luggage seemed to be last to be off-loaded from the plane. We joined the tail end of one of the three queues waiting to be processed.

Both Ian and I had items to declare and of course we ticked the appropriate boxes on our declaration forms. As we approached the female Customs officer we could see that something wasn't quite right with her. She was an older lady and she looked like she was mentally and physically on another planet. Seriously she looked quite unwell. She could barely support herself at the desk and she looked as though she was ready to collapse in a heap. She had a glazed and totally disinterested expression. She asked Ian what he was declaring but then she said and did nothing more. Perhaps Ian looked very honest. When she got to me she never even asked me about the boxes I had ticked. Goodness knows what we could have brought onto the island had we been that way inclined. Norfolk Island is such a pristine place and a lot of damage could be done by people bringing in items that might be banned. Nonetheless it didn't both this officer. My passport was stamped very lightly. The little official stamp was "patted" onto Ian's passport. It is not even vaguely readable. Even the words Norfolk Island are not printed. We wondered if the lady was under the influence of very strong pain killers. She was certainly away with the fairies.

With that formality out of the way we proceeded to the little shuttle bus that was going to take us to our accommodation at Governor's Lodge.
