Wonderland by Night tour

Back at our cottage we ate sandwiches, fruit and cake out on our little verandah. It was pleasantly cool and breezy in the shade of the verandah.

The Wonderland by Night tour begins

At 7:15 p.m. we hopped on a mini bus and were taken on quite a unique tour. We were driven to a property that was heavily wooded and we were going to be entertained by the poems of bush poet Archie Biggs.

I quite enjoy poetry but not particularly bush poetry so I wasn't sure what I would make of this tour. I needn't have worried. Together, with Archie's son who would be reciting for the evening, we wandered along bush paths. He recited his Dad's poems at length. As he told us these wonderful rhyming Australian tales the shrubs and trees around us lit up and we were able to see little scenes that illustrated the poems. The scenes were incredibly well crafted and Archie's poems were well written and very funny in parts. When each poem finished we sauntered off along the pathway where we would stop once again for another poem and another scene in the bushes.

As we wandered along there were lots of benches to sit on for those who didn't want to stand for too long. For those concerned about how they would manage the foot paths there was a little vehicle that could transport them around the tracks.

Towards the end of the tour we were gathered in the darkness and Archie's son told us to close our eyes. When he told us to open them we found ourselves transported to fairy land. There were thousands and thousands of little lights everywhere around us. They were way, way up in the trees as well. It was simply gorgeous. We all wondered how many people and how long it took to set up all the lights.

Supper in the shed at the end of the tour Supper at the end was appreciated

The tour lasted about two hours but we weren't finished yet. We were taken into a large shed where we were treated to a cuppa or a cold drink and some tasty cake.

The big shed was rather fancier than a shed as we might know it. It had the most beautiful timber flooring and there were lots of farm artifacts to look at too. To find out more about this tour see Wonderland by Night.
