Our itinerary in Tasmania

Previous page: A Tasmanian idea enters our heads

Our tour is called the Tasmanian Explorer and you can see the route we will travel on the map below:

I was intending to write out the itinerary on here myself but it is detailed very well on Evergreen Tour's website, see Tasmanian Explorer

A map of the route we will be taking in Tasmania

We have added in a couple of days extra at the start of the tour in Hobart just so we can wind down and get into holiday mode. The tour first takes us to Port Arthur and then after that we head north to Bicheno and then continue on in an anti-clockwise direction until we get back to Hobart.

Cost of the flights to Hobart

Travelling with Virgin Airlines we fly out of Perth and change planes in Melbourne. The Perth - Melbourne leg takes 3 hours and 25 minutes.

We have a wait of 1 hour and 50 minutes in Melbourne. The flight from Melbourne to Tasmania takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. So, leaving Perth at midday, we arrive in Hobart at 9:30 p.m. This represents a total time difference of 9 hours and 30 minutes but taking daylight saving into account we will be travelling for 6 hours and 30 minutes. That's not too bad at all. Our two flights cost a total of $1408 AUD.

Accommodation in Hobart - The Grand Mercure, Hadleys

We are staying at the Grand Mercure Hadleys Hotel in Hobart . It looks rather nice from viewing the pictures on their website. It is costing us $480 total for our two extra nights at this hotel at the start of the holiday. I thought that seemed an awful lot of money but the receptionist at the hotel informed me it is their high season so presumably it will be cheaper when it is not school holidays or anywhere near the time of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.

The cost of the Evergreen tour

The cost of the tour itself is $6,430 between the two of us. We have netted an early payment discount of $500 which is not to be sneezed at. So that brings it to $5,930.

For that amount of money we receive 11 nights accommodation plus on most days we receive two meals included in that tariff.

We are taken around in the coach for a total of 9 days. Whether this is good value or not we simply don't know. It seems to be a highly regarded tour company so hopefully we will feel we have received value for money. The total holiday will have cost $7818 AUD and we will be away for a total of 14 days, including travel time to Hobart and back.
